Overcoming Transfer Barriers

A report that was published by the Campaign for College Opportunity found that there are numerous barriers for students who are transferring from two-year institutions to four-year institutions. It is important to note that this report was conducted with California students but I see this happening in my work with Minnesota students as well. It has been found that some barriers students face are:
Challenging coursework requirements
Credits that fail to transfer from one institution to another
Students taking an excessive amount of credits
These challenges can easily be overcome if you have the knowledge and tools to navigate the process. Transfer rates continue to be low because the process is cumbersome, confusing, and time consuming; this process is far more difficult than it needs to be.

One way students can help alleviate some of these roadblocks is to look into enrolling in a Transfer Pathway. In order to do this you will want to look into what your interests are and what career you are hoping to pursue. Once you have this figured out you can look into various programs across Minnesota that offer the Transfer Pathway. If you complete a Transfer Pathway at a Minnesota State community college and are admitted to a Minnesota State university, you will be guaranteed junior status and all 60 associate degree credits will count toward the related bachelor’s degree.
This is a great opportunity for many students. In order to help navigate this and determine if it is the right fit for you or your student, reach out to me at info@atozeducationalconsulting.com or 612-735-1261.
